The GREAT Med partnership is composed of 4 countries regions placed along the shorelines of the Mediterranean Sea: Italy, France, Tunisia and Lebanon. The project partners have been chosen in order to ensure cross-border transfer of scientific knowledge on Mediterranean coastal ecosystems (environmental status, pressures and impacts).

Furthermore, there are four Associate partners, PAP/RAC (Priority Actions Programme/Regional Activity Centre), MATTM (Ministry of the Environment and Protection of Land and Sea), MIUR (Ministry of Education, Universities and Research) and FASRC (Federation of Arab Scientific Research Councils), which have expressed their interest in the project results representing main project target groups.

Finally, one of the aims of the GREAT Med project is the development of an implementable, collaborativeand international Network of institutions, agencies and local administrations interested in/dealing with monitoring coastal areas in the Mediterranean and integration of local interventions in a macro-scale action plan at basin level. The purpose of this network is to build a cross border network where all partners, organisations and local actors can meet, share needs, objectives expertise and results. transfer knowledge and expertise between them and share perspectives on priorities for conservation and management at the Mediterranean Basin scale.
